Wanted to try this place out since its nearby. Ordered online for pickup and it was absolutely disappointing and disgusting. It looks like puke and because the bag was overpacked, my food exploded everywhere. Honestly because it looks gross, I don't even remember what I ordered. Maybe chicken chow mein. Luckily I also ordered chicken wings or I'd be even more pissed. I will never order from here again.
This place is a historic mainstay on Lyndale for a reason. It’s looking a little rough around edges these days, but is worth a stop if you’re looking for hearty Chinese food and cocktails served in a cozy, charming, tucked away environment.
Service was helpful and friendly when we went on a Tuesday evening, although a bit slow and inattentive as we finished up. There’s room for improvement here.
The food hit the spot. I highly recommend the chicken wings which are crunchy, meaty, and served hot. The sizzling platter left something to be desired, as it wasn’t really sizzling and was a bit too soupy and salty. Nevertheless, it was a good dining experience overall.
It’s a bit gritty to be sure, and yes, the tables are a bit sticky, but the bathrooms are clean, the food and drinks are good, and there is a glowing red heart to the place. We didn’t sit at the bar which seems like it’d be fun on a Friday night. The cocktails and shots have eye-catching names that you’ll have to see for yourself.
There’s better value elsewhere to be fair but Red Dragon is certainly treasured here at the corner of 22nd and Lyndale.
I had Lo Mein, which was pretty good. They use smaller noodles. However, it was still good. The bartender made really good drinks. I will be going back.
Pro: Boozy drinks are great!
Con: Automatic gratuity that they don't tell you about then when your bill comes that also asks for a tip so not uncommon to end up tipping 40% on a drink.
I have went to this restaurant multiple times and I actually stopped eating inside because they charge you a 18% gratuity but I went in today brought a box of shrimp fried rice $16 way overpriced and they cut the shrimp in half but I like their food so I purchased it anyway I requested sweet and sour sauce or as they call it duck sauce and some red chili oil when the server comes to give me the chili oil she says do you have an extra dollar because they charge you a dollar for chili oil to go and my response is it's part of the condiments that you use for the fried rice moving forward I will never go back here again. They made their last money off me
I've had a lot of experience with several different Chinese takeout restaurants in the cities. I was really looking forward to Red Dragon considering the reviews and the recommendations. But unfortunately our experience was profoundly disappointing. We had the beef lo-mein, the chicken pineapple and a side of pot stickers.
The beef lo mein was dry to say the least, displayed little flavor if at all. On a positive note you do get a lot of meat, but the unfortunate part is the meat is all tasteless. With a aftertaste of salty flavor.
The pineapple chicken was flat. Absolutely no flavor besides the natural flavor of the pineapple. No spices no differentiating flavor.
We even tried adding soy sauce to the plate and still experience the same lackluster flavorless taste with a hint of soy sauce.
I think the biggest offense was the potstickers. They were literally burnt on one side, and these were the same texture and familiarity as we find in Ling Ling Costco brand Frozen potstickers you can gladly do at home for a fraction of the price. It's almost as if they use the same exact Frozen pot stickers you can buy.
The rice was warm and fluffy and as good as you would expect from any moderate to average Chinese takeout.
I lived in uptown for quite a number of years and understand and really cherish the diversity and amazing uniqueness of where Red dragon is located.
Sitting in the restaurant waiting for my takeout order I had more than my share of strong marijuana odor. I don't have anything personally against recreational marijuana usage but the mere stench of it while waiting for food was a bit off-putting.
If you desire very mediocre food and you have no ride around uptown this is the place to go. But if you have a bus pass or any other transportation I would highly recommend Panda Express above red dragon at this point.
You would save half the price and at least get some fortune cookies.
I'm hoping Red dragon sees this review and vastly improves their food quality and they're waiting area inside the restaurant.
Been here in the past and it is no longer what it used to be. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST!! First, my friend and I were approached by two men at the door I don’t even know if they worked there or not, but tried to scam us by telling us …
2 orders of wings (8pc not whole wings) and 2 beers = $49 with automatic gratuity. This was the "go-to" spot back in the day, especially because of the food and drinks. Now, the quality of the food has gone down and prices have gone up. It's not worth it in my opinion 🤷🏿♂️. …
Wonderous Punches are flowing again! Service was a bit slow for the reopen. I expect it to be better by the weekend. Come out and support your favorite bar!
The food was just… not good. You know how Chinese food is hit or miss? This is a miss. Also way overpriced. $33 for egg rolls and an entree.
